Wood / Material: Flame retardants Brominated biphenyls and ethers

analysis: organic contaminants
The polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) and polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) are used as flame retardants. The group of PBDEs can be further subdivided into PentaPBDE, OctaPBDE and DecaPBD compounds. The penta and octa compounds have been banned since 2003 because of their high toxicity.

The PBBs are used as flame retardants or as softeners. They may not be used in electrical appliances produced after 2006.
