PAH (EPA) in dust

analysis: organic contaminants

The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a natural component of mineral oil and tar. They also occur during incomplete combustion and industrial processes. The group includes several hundred compounds. Many of them are classified as carcinogenic. In the 1980s the EPA Commission (US Environmental Protection Agency) defined 16 substances as key compounds which can be analysed as representative of a whole group. A dust analysis gives a good overview of conditions in closed spaces.
