Softeners (phthalates) in food

analysis: organic contaminants

Plasticisers are used to make materials softer. They are present in foils and in the sealing material of screw caps or plastic bottles. The problem is that they can get into our food. This is especially true for fatty or liquid foods. The plasticisers are not bonded to the plastic material, so they can move out of the plastic into the food. There are different types of plasticisers. We can distinguish between phthalates, acetates, epoxidated plasticiser and others. Phthalates can make people sterile and cause other diseases.
