Raw meat for dogs and cats can contain dangerous germs, dangerous for animals, but even more dangerous for humans.<\/p>\n

In the scientific publication by Freek van Bree and his team (Veterinary Record <\/span>Jan 2018, <\/span><span=”highwire-cite-metadata-volume highwire-cite-metadata”=””>182 (2) <\/span><span=”highwire-cite-metadata-pages highwire-cite-metadata”=””>50; DOI:span> 10.1136\/fr.104535<\/span>) the authors report positive findings of E. coli and other antibiotic-resistant coli bacteria, listeria and salmonella in raw meat products for cats and dogs. The animals may be able to cope with these germs. Their digestive tract works differently here than that of humans. At the same time, these germs can be transmitted to humans, for example if an animal licks off a person’s hand or face or even sleeps in bed. With the trend towards “Barfen” (BARF = Biologically Appropriate Raw Feeding), the risk of infection for cat and dog lovers is also increasing. These germs can seriously affect human health; salmonella can be fatal. It is therefore essential to ensure hygiene when feeding raw meat.<\/span><\/span=”highwire-cite-metadata-pages><\/span=”highwire-cite-metadata-volume. Recent studies show that enterobacteria often pose a danger.<\/p>\n
